📅 Sample: The Morning Shift Opening Checklist
1
Record opening meter readings for every nozzle
Cross-check with previous shift's closing readings before anyone touches the nozzle. Any discrepancy must be explained before the shift begins — not after.
⚡ PPG Tip: Use ShiftMate — opening reading auto-fills from last close. Mismatch flagged instantly.
2
Take tank dip readings for every tank
Convert centimetre readings to litres using the calibrated dip chart. Compare with closing stock from previous shift. Variance above 50 litres must be investigated before proceeding.
🛢️ PPG Tip: OISD allows 0.15% evaporation. Anything above that is a potential pilferage flag.
3
Verify cash float and hand over petty cash
The opening cash float should match what was agreed in the previous shift's handover. Any extra or missing cash must be recorded before the shift begins — not discovered at close.
4
Check all dispensers are calibrated and sealed
Verify the Legal Metrology seal is intact on every nozzle. A broken seal means the dispenser cannot operate legally — the manager must report it immediately, not continue dispensing.
📋 PPG Tip: If calibration is due, ComplianceGuard would have alerted you 90 days ago.
5
Brief the shift staff — expectations for the day
A 5-minute shift briefing on expected volume, any VIP fleet customers expected, and a reminder of cash handling discipline sets the tone for the entire shift.
